  11. Thank goodness I've finally found a modem that does what it is supposed 
  12. to!
  13. I purchased a 28.8 internal fax modem about a month ago.  I could not
  14. connect at 28.8 with any service.  I was told that the problem was 
  15. probably poor
  16. line conditions.  The best I could do with it was a 14.4k baud 
  17. connection.
  18. Finally, I got lucky and discovered CNet's modem comparison report
  19. (http://www.cnet.com/).  They tested 30 28.8 baud modems under various 
  20. line
  21. conditions.  Under poor line conditions, the Best Data Smart One 2834fx 
  22. scored
  23. the highest results.  Four brands failed to connect.  Had they tested 
  24. the
  25. 28.8 modem I purchased, I'm sure they would have found five brands that 
  26. failed 
  27. to connect under poor line conditions.  Anyway, today I received my 
  28. Best Data modem, connected with no problems to Compuserve and most 
  29. important, connected at 28.8 with my local internet access provider  
  30. for the first time.
